Rainfall in Porter, IN
On June 23, 2007 the weather in Porter, Indiana does not invite for any outside activities. Nevertheless I stopped here
and caught some train pictures, with my camera somehow protected in a plastic bag. At Porter there is a crossing of
an Amtrak line and a busy NS line.
Two Dash9-40CW (NS 9040 and 9498) are running eastwards from Chicago. The wet cars are shining in the rainy sky.
A steel train is next. The cars in tow of NS 7555 (ES40DC) and NS 9532 (Dash9-40CW) are covered coil cars.
Coming from opposite direction NS 3540 (Dash8-32B) and NS 3544(Dash8-32B) are leading a long mixed freight. In
contrast to the main line the sidings with jointed rails look rather uneven. The rain is continuing and I decide to drive
westwards in direction to Chicago.
From the parking lot at the commuter station Portage Odgen Dunes this Intermodalzug was captured. The two engines
are one SD40-2 "Snoot Nose" CP5931 and CP 9613 (AC4400CW). It's only drizzling now.
At Rolling Prairie my Scanner is scratching and also voices appearing! I am just crossing a double track line and can find
a secure place to stop. Just stepped out of the car a guy like Buffalo Bill rides by. Wow! Here is the wild west! Very
soon also a train appears pulled by NS 2663 (SD70M-2) and one GE C44W. |
