Railfanning at Waterloo, IN

Waterloo, IN is located at a double track NS mainline. Waterloo has several grade crossings and also an Amtrak station where you easily can watch the trains.

The old station has been restored and is used now as a community location. A bit more eastwards the modern AMTRAK can be found.

The well maintained double track main line runs straight and quite level through Waterloo - so train will run by at speed! Doing so are NS 9759, CW44, and one further modern General Electric machine with an intermodal train.

Another stack train races eastwards. Engines are CP 8758, one blue leaser numbered 1042 and CP 8513.

Soon the show goes on: NS 2751 (SD70M-2) and a Dash9 thundering through with one further intermodal.

Again an intermodal! Conrail colours at the lead. In the background the mighty grain elevator is watching over the scene.

Here is the close view: Motive power is Conrail 8434 and NS 8899, both are Dash9-40CW.

It's Sunday morning - empty streets guide my way to the Bunge / The Andersons Waterloo AG Center. Besides grain silos there are also tanks for fertilizer and agricultural chemical.

What a surprise- a real Baldwin oldtimer earns his keepings at the elevator! The four exhaust stacks of this DS-4-4-1000 are covered by buckets.

At the other side of the Ag Centers tank cars are parked.

Finally a merchandise train powered by 4 engines rolls by. In the lead is NS 9430 (Dash9-40CW), followed by BN 9592 (SD70MAC), NS 8880 (C40-9) and NS 2541 (SD70). 5 trains and one oldtimer within one hour is a quite good recommendation for Waterloo as a trainspotting place!
